Request for Research Speakers

Research Dissemination Award (OMED 2018)

The American Osteopathic Association is issuing a call to disseminate research to all osteopathic specialty colleges for the 2018 Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition (OMED) Oct. 5-9, 2018, in San Diego.

The AOA seeks to integrate its research into the osteopathic specialty colleges' didactic sessions. The objective is to disseminate the latest research to the osteopathic community attending OMED without competing with the outstanding programs already being developed by the individual osteopathic specialty colleges. The AOA Department of Research and Development will sponsor research focused speakers that meet the specific criteria set forth below.

Speaker​ Criteria
    • The speaker must be a DO or PhD.
    • The speaker must be disseminating the latest evidenced-based research and/or programs in the field of the specialty college.

Applicat​ion Process

The osteopa​thic specialty college interested in receiving a research speaker sponsorships award must: 

The speakers’ presentations are listed in the OMED program as part of the Research Track.

Deadline for Application

    • The deadline was April 2, 2018.


The maximum number of speaker sponsorship awards for OMED 2018 is six. Please read the Review/Award Process for specifics.

Review/Award Process

The AOA will review each packet and determine who will receive a speaker sponsorship award. The award will involve the AOA directly reimbursing the speaker for the following:

OMED Registration: It is the specialty college’s responsibility to cover all registration fees and to ensure that its speaker(s) registers in a timely fashion.

Transportation: The AOA will pay or reimburse for coach class air or rail travel; ground travel mileage for the use of an automobile at the rate of .54 cents a mile; and ground transportation expenses (parking, taxis, Uber) for travel to and from the hotel.

Lodging: The AOA will reimburse for hotel charges at a maximum of $250 per night, not to exceed two nights.

Food: The AOA will reimburse for food costs to a maximum of $110 per day, not to exceed two days.

Other: The AOA will provide an honorarium of up to $500.

2017 OMED Research Track

The Bureau of Osteopathic Clinical Education and Research (BOCER) presented sessions on the latest research that impacts the osteopathic community and osteopathic medicine during the Annual AOA Research Conference, which was held Oct. 7-8, 2017, in Philadelphia. 

The research conference is held each year in conjunction with the AOA's Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition (OMED)

In addition, BOCER highlighted research efforts during its annual Poster Session and Student Poster Competition, and recognized the AOA's newest research grant recipients during a reception.

BOCER has partnered with American College of Osteopathic Neurologists and Psychiatrists, AOA Bureau of Scientific Affairs and Public Health, and the American Osteopathic Society of Rheumatic Diseases.
