ICD-10 Delayed At Least One Year

ICD-10 implementation will be delayed until at least Oct. 1, 2015, as part of the Medicare physician payment patch passed in March 2014. There has been no specific guidance from CMS on what the impact of the law will be. It is no longer required to begin using ICD-10 codes for services on and after Oct 1, 2014. Our latest advice is that you continue using ICD-9 codes until further notice, and that you assure yourself that your software will allow you to use the ICD-9 codes on and after Oct 1, 2014. The AOA will continue to monitor and participate in discussions about this and rely on our Washington, D.C. staff and subject matter experts to keep you up to date on issues regarding ICD-10.
