20th Annual BIOM International Seminar

Osteopathic Medical Students and Residents: Enter the 20th Annual BIOM Competition on Global Health Research, Outreach, and Narrative Medicine

The American Osteopathic Associaiton's Bureau of International Osteopathic Medicine (BIOM) will present its 20th Annual International Seminar, “Innovation in Osteopathic Medicine and Outreach,” Saturday, Oct. 6, during OMED 2018 in San Diego.

Michelle Morse, MD, and Zadock Sacks, MD, co-founding directors of EqualHealth, will present the keynote address about social medicine. The program also will include a panel discussion on social medicine, ethics and providing care in a global context.

BIOM Competitions

In conjunction with the seminar, BIOM is sponsoring an Abstract Competition, which is open to all osteopathic medical students and residents in the United States. 

The competition's three categories are:

All entries must be focused on the entrants’ experiences with global health and/or providing health care internationally.

In addition, BIOM is hosting a non-competitive Poster Session. This session allows students who have submitted an abstract to the BIOM Abstract Competition to display posters on those projects. This event is noncompetitive and open to all students and residents who have completed eligible research.

All entrants to the BIOM Research Abstract Competition and BIOM Poster Session must submit evidence that their research has undergone appropriate review by a university- or hospital-based internal review board (IRB) in at least one country. Learn more about the IRB requirements.

Prizes

In each of the three categories, there will be:

  • One first-place prize of $750 plus a chance to present your project at the BIOM International Seminar.

  • One second-place prize of $500.

In addition, there will be one grand prize to the top overall entrant. This winner will receive an opportunity to present at the BIOM Seminar and a cash prize of $1,500.

Deadline

The deadline for all competitions is Friday, July 20, 2018, at 11:59 p.m. CDT. Winners will be announced by Monday, Aug. 20, 2018.
